The on or off hire surveys include the verification of bunkers and other consumables on board the vessel at the official start and completion time of a contract.
The reason for determining how many bunkers are on board the vessel is to ensure, upon re-delivery of the vessel to the owner, that the quantity of bunkers on the vessel at the start of the contract will be the same as at the end of the contract. Any deviation in bunker/lube oil/freshwater figures will be adjusted as previously agreed by the owner and client.
The surveys include:
Amount of fuel, oil and freshwater onboard as agreed/witnessed alongside the vessel’s Master or his representative.
Inspection of the vessel hull, recording any damage prior to or after contract completion.
Condition of the main deck and other areas.
Weather and watertight integrity of the vessels deck hatch covers & other openings.
Condition of lifting gear and securing equipment with special regards to cargo.
Condition of any dry cargo compartments.
General condition of the superstructure and internal areas including recreational facilities.
An Off-Hire Survey will also address:
Any damage to the vessel, not sighted upon the on-hire survey.
Any incident reports occurring whilst on contract.
Any other client-specific requirements which may influence the contracted obligations.
