Onne Multipurpose Terminal

CARES was commissioned by ICTSI to conduct a Masterplan Study for the proposed Onne Multipurpose Terminal (OMT), highlighting its potential with the right investment. The envisioned layout includes berths, cargo storage, warehouses, and support facilities. OMT’s strategic location on the southern side of the Onne Port Complex benefits vessels navigating the Bonny River. The proposed investment, spanning three phases from 2020 to 2045, aims to maximize cargo throughout with different scenarios, projecting capacities ranging from 233,600 to 1,103,760 TEU/year.

The following consultancy services were carried out by CARES during the project execution:

Evaluated existing infrastructure and available port equipment.

Identified optimal port layout for proposed 25-year strategy.

Assessed feasibility of forecasted cargo throughputs up to 2045, for investment of further port equipment.

Outlined high-level design for port facilities, including paving, utilities, security, gate design, mechanical and electrical, buildings, and warehouses.

Services Provided Included:

• Assessed the potential configuration and layout of the facility.

• Developed a proposed layout for OMT, including; berths, cargo storage, warehouses, and support infrastructure.

• Analysed OMT’s strategic location on the southern side of the Onne Port Complex, advantageous for vessels navigating the Bonny River.

• Proposed an investment strategy divided into three phases spanning from 2020 to 2045.

• Modelled various investment scenarios to estimate cargo throughput capacities, focusing on transitioning between different operational setups.

• Estimated throughout capacities range from 233,600 to 1,103,760 TEU/year based on investment decisions and timing.
