Lekki Free Zone Waterbodies Modelling & ESIA

Main Banner

The Lekki Free Zone (LFZ) is being developed by Lekki Free Zone Development Company (LFZDC) on the Lekki Peninsula. In the South West Quadrant LFZDC are developing waterbodies to help protect the site from flooding and erosion, to provide shipping channels, to enhance the landscape and to support urban functionality.

To support these plans CARES Group was asked to complete:

  • An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for final approval by the Federal Ministry of the Environment.
  • Hydrological modelling to assist runoff estimation from regional rainfall events of significance.
  • Hydraulic modelling to determine the appropriate depths of the channels and to verify and authenticate the ability of the waterbodies for their intended functions.
  • Water quality modelling to determine the impact of the waterbodies on the Lekki Lagoon.
  • Saltwater intrusion modelling to ascertain that the design depth is sustainable without the intrusion of saltwater from the nearby Atlantic Ocean.
  • Sustainability assessments to assess the sustainability of the green space.
  • Scenario analysis to assess the impact of climate change on navigation, drainage and flood control.

The EIA has been successfully approved by the regulators and LFZDC are developing the Free Zone.
