Technical Assistance for Water User Association and Scheme Management Development

The Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria (TRIMING) Project aims to develop and implement a comprehensive training and change management programme for farmer Water User Associations (WUAs) and River Basin Development Authority (RBDA) personnel in support of irrigation scheme operations, maintenance, and management for the Kano River Irrigation Scheme (KRIS) and the Hadejia Valley Irrigation Scheme (HVIS), in support of ongoing and forthcoming legislative and regulatory reform in the agricultural irrigation sector in Nigeria.

Services Provided

Services Provided Include:

  • Sub-consultant to WNL Development Solutions Ltd, providing key staff, including:

- Irrigation Engineer (Deputy TL)

- Development Communications Strategy Specialist

  • Inclusion of scheme O&M implications into the WUA training programme; Development of decision support tools for pre-season water balance evaluation and weekly operational planning; Training WUA representatives and technicians and RBDA personnel; Evaluation of O&M costs and guidance on the final pricing agreements between the WUAs and RBDA.
  • Development of key communication tools and media to achieve maximum strategic communication impact of key transformation messages; Design of content and mechanism for delivery, including video and radio scripts, SMS feedback systems, print and advertising, and conventional messaging platforms.
