As part of the Gary Player golf course development, a golf academy, maintenance building and two comfort stations, one at the either end of the golf course are planned to be built.
The golf Academy is a two story building founded in a 3m cut with the surrounding landscaped to suit the new development. The maintenance building is a framed single storey building most likely to be supported by shallow foundations.
The two comfort stations are very light single storey buildings which will house facilities for those players wishing to rest during their golf round.
The site investigation comprised:
7 No. Boreholes using rotary drilling techniques, with associated laboratory testing;
Laboratory tests comprised grain size analysis on soil samples and chemical testing on soil and ground water samples;
Unconfined compression strength and point load testing on rock samples;
In situ testing using cone penetration testing with pore water pressure measurement (CPTU);
Ground water monitoring;
Four standpipe piezometers were installed and monitored.
