The platform for the new airport extends some 2km into the sea and requires over 60 million m3 of suitable fill. Sand is being dredged from up to 20km offshore. Eleven TSHDs and CSDs will be employed to ensure completion within two years.
Scope of services included; Design and implementation of the environmental management plan; Establishment of baseline parameters and operational criteria; Design and implementation of the monitoring system which includes 24 hour environmental monitoring of dredge and reclamation operations with two offshore spreads and an onshore unit to cover all aspects of potential impact.
The new airport site encompasses over 2000 hectares.
